💠Indian Endocrinologist, Diabetologist & Research Scientist
🔸Shashank Joshi was born in Mumbai, the capital city of Maharastra.
🔸He studied medicine MBBS and MD from Grant Medical College (GMC) and Sir Jamshedjee Jeejeebhoy Group of Hospitals, Mumbai with First Rank and Gold Medals. Then he completed his DM in Endocrinology from the Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai in 1997 with First Rank.
🔸Dr. Joshi began his career as a faculty of GMC and Sir J.J. Group of Hospitals and later moved Seth G.S. Medical College and KEM Hospital till 2009.
🔸Presently, Prof. Dr. Joshi is associated with Lilavathi Hospital & Research Center, Mumbai as a Consultant Endocrine & Metabolic Physician for 20 yrs.
🔸During his initial days in Lilavati Hospital, he collaborated with the Legend Dr. R. D. Lele who is the celebrated Father of Nuclear Medicine of India. The duo have done many research projects in the field of Diabetology and Endocrinology by using radio-immunoassay.
🔸Dr. Joshi is working as a Consultant Endocrinologist at Sir H. N. Reliance Foundation Hospital & Bhatia Hospital, Mumbai and also doing his private practice at Joshi Clinic in the Mumbai city.
🔸In addition to that Dr. Joshi is also serving as a National and International teaching faculty at various Indian and International Universities.
🔸His incessant service brought him many laurels like Fellowships from reputed institutions including:
🔅Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (Glasgow, London and Edinburgh).
🔅Fellow of the Indian College of Physicians (FICP).
🔅Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).
🔅Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology (FACE).
🔸Furthermore, he has held many prestigious positions in many academic forums such as:
🔅Past President of Endocrine Society of India.
🔅Past President of Association of Physicians of India (API).
🔅Past President of the Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India (RSSDI).
🔅Past President of All India Association of Advancing Research in Obesity.
🔅Past President International College of Nutrition.
🔅Past President of Hypertension Society of India (HSI).
🔅Past Chairperson of American Association of Clinical Endocrinology (India Chapter).
🔅Past Dean, Indian College of Physicians.
🔅Visiting Clinician at the Mayo Clinic.
🔸Currently, he is heading the following positions:
🔅Chair of International Diabetes Federation South East Asia.
🔅President of Indian Academy of Diabetes.
🔸Besides, Prof. Joshi is a prolific writer of articles on Diabetology and Endocrinology. Over the years, he has Published 30 books and 800 research articles by actively involving in evidence based work on Diabetes, Obesity, Thyroid disorders, Osteoporosis and Growth.
🔸He is the Editor-in- Chief of The RSSDI Textbook of Diabetes, 4th Edition published in 2020 and Editor of last 6 Editions of P.J. Mehta’s Practical Medicine, which is the largest circulated Undergraduate Medical Textbook in India.
🔸Indeed he is also the Hon. Emeritus Editor on Journal of the Association of Physicians of India (JAPI), Chief-Editor of Journal of Medical Nutrition and Nutracueticals and Indian Journal of Medical Sciences (IJMS)
🔸Some of his pioneer research in the field of medicine are:
🔅HIV/AIDS, Infectious diseases and Public health in early part of the epidemic in 1990s.
🔅Asian Indian Phenotype (Thin-Fat Indian).
🔅Co-morbidities in Hypothyroidism.
🔅Prevalence of Dyslipidemia in Urban and Rural India.
🔅Impact of Vitamin D Deficiency on Bone Health in Asian Indians.
🔸His exemplary service in the field of medicine is well recognized and honoured with many prestigious awards including:
🔅International Clinician of the Year 2012 by the American College of Endocrinology.
🔅 Padma Shri Award from the Government of India in 2014.
🔸During the Covid-19 Pandemic, he played the main role in the COVID-19 Task Force for Maharashtra State. He did a stupendous job by managing Covid-19 in India by developing clinical protocol and guidelines.
🔸Prof. Shashank Joshi is certainly an extraordinary Physician cum Diabetologist cum Endocrinologist and moreover an astounding Medical Researcher, Teacher and Administrator. Apart from that, he is a man of humanity and a role model for generations of Physicians.
